Something as remote as pain in a totally different region of your body can cause your sinuses to react. Mental and emotional issues can also cause sinus problems. At the same time, not all sinus problems are easy to diagnose. There may be things that you could have been born with or recent procedures that you’ve undergone which can affect your nose’s health. Things that could be happening are having a Deviated Septumor a Nasal Obstruction. This blog will cover some of the symptoms, which point to these two problems.
Your body is built to be symmetrical from the outside and mostly symmetrical on the inside, your nose included. When you have trouble breathing while being infection-free, you could be experiencing what is known as a deviated septum.
The septum is the split in your nasal passage that directs air to and from both nostrils. This passageway is created by cartilage and bone. It is important that it stays symmetrical because a deviated septum can branch off to one side of the inner nasal passage and cause severe blockage, leading to poor breathing. While this specifically isn’t life threatening, having to struggle in breathing properly can severely deteriorate the quality of life for anybody suffering from this condition.
A Deviated Septum isn’t always the culprit for poor breathing. Similarly, a Nasal Obstruction provides similar discomfort and the underlying cause could be a mucus buildup that has dried and hardened, resulting in a totally blocked nostril. Signs that you may have a deviated septum or blocked nasal passage are:
- Breathing Difficulties When Breathing Through The Nose
- Nose Bleeds
- Open Mouth Breathing
- Pain In The Face
- Regular Nasal Infections
- Snoring, Or Sleep Apnea That Prevents Sleep
Other symptoms are your being aware of the nasal cycle, and having a preference to sleep on one side due to the resulting blockage that occurs from sleeping on the “bad side.” The nasal cycle is regular, because the nose alternates autonomously between the left and right side. If these symptoms affect you, it would be a good idea to visit a Central Park ENT clinic in Arlington, Dallas or Fort Worth.
To correct these issues, you could have a few options. With most cases though, septoplasty; which is the cartilage correction, inside the nose is the best option. If you have a nasal blockage, submucuos resurrection is the only other option. These surgeries will vary in severity depending on the extent of your condition.
If you have had breathing troubles in the past, have frequent nosebleeds, or if you try to treat your congestion at home with no results, you should see your Arlington, Dallas, or Fort Worth Ears, Nose and Throat Clinic to possibly diagnose and treat your condition.
