Part 2 of this blog will give you the relief of knowing that there is hope for those of you who have these issues and that your local ENT doctor in Arlington, Dallas or Fort Worth can help.

We will discuss treatments in both mild and extreme cases as well as risks, abnormalities and must-knows that entail modern day treatments.

Treatments for all of these symptoms are similar, but delivered in different ways. For example, daily prescriptions are available which block histamine all day and are available for patients of all ages.

Tablets

Children as young as two years old can be given dissolvable tablets that provide relief for most common symptoms. There are also injection treatments (allergy shots) available to increase resistance to allergens in order to eliminate the daily administration of medication. These treatments usually span anywhere from a few months to a year, depending on the severity of the initial reaction.

Allergy Shots

Allergy shots begin by determining the initial reaction of the patient to a very small dosage of a certain allergen. If the dosage is not very severe, the next administration (there are usually two administrations per week for a couple months) will be raised to establish that there is already a certain resistance to the allergen.

These injections are increased in strength and spaced out farther over the next few weeks and months until the dosage is at its maximum and the patient has no major reaction to the administered allergen.

Of course like all treatments, there are risks associated with therapy and for allergy shots, that risk carried is anaphylactic shock. There is no need to fear treatments of this nature, it should be expressed that there is a very small chance of this occurring during the administration period.

Allergy Drops

An alternative to allergy shots is allergy drops. Allergy drops follow the same premise as allergy shots, except for the fact that allergy drops are placed under the tongue and have lower dosages, as well as longer treatment times that can last as long as four years. Allergy drops also have the advantage of being safe enough to administer at home without the increased risk of anaphylactic shock.
