Some people even welcome the “once a year” disease to supposedly strengthen their immune system to ward off more dangerous diseases, viruses and bacteria. What you may not know about your Ears, Nose, and Throat may actually hurt you. There are many ways to protect yourself from disease other than falling victim once per year. Here are a few ways to give yourself that little boost.

The Nose
  • Cod liver oil – You may be familiar with this, since it has always been a top ranking “I hate taking this” remedy for children. You may not know that chewing a sprig or two of parsley will help reduce the bad smell and burping.
  • Vitamins A, C, and D – Deficiencies in these vitamins can lead to sinusitis, giving you clear nasal passageways and easy breathing. These are easy to find in foods, and your local Dallas Organic Food store can give you a plentiful supply of these cheaply.
  • Zinc – A zinc lozenge is easy to find and will coat the lining of your throat, making it difficult for viruses to penetrate and shielding you from some of the most uncomfortable and longest incapacitating viruses out there.
  • Dandelion roots and greens – This is the one that some may find strange. Dandelion roots and greens are also most convenient because you can add them to anything. Salads, teas – even lasagna! Cook it, boil it, or eat it raw and Dandelion can help you by improving your immune system’s response to disease and pathogens.

Unfortunately there are less preventative methods of helping the throat since throat infections and diseases aren’t apparent until they are painful. But here are some of the remedies for preexisting conditions that can be solved with a little home remedy. But bear in mind that home remedies are not an excuse to stay away from the doctor. Anytime that you feel like you may be suffering from an Ear, Nose or Throat disease, call Central Park ENT to schedule an appointment.

The Throat
  • For Strep – Dilute apple cider vinegar with equal parts water and gargle. That is all you need to do. Relief should come quickly and don’t be afraid to rinse twice to help with the rapines and swelling. If this doesn’t bring much relief, add 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar and 1 tablespoon of honey to a cup of boiling water. A slice of ginger will help as well. Drink this blend to thin the mucus and reduce your body’s acidity.
  • For Congestion – Boil some water and add essential oil of peppermint until you can notice the scent and drape a towel over your head to trap the steam and inhale deeply for 5 to 10 minutes. More oil in this case does not necessarily mean better results. Adding too much oil can irritate your nasal passage and cause discomfort.

These remedies are not meant to fully treat, heal, or restore you to your normal healthy state.
